The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation. The New York City Police Department, Latent Print Section conducts examinations to include latent, patent, and/or friction ridge impressions to known print(s) (exemplars) and known print(s) to known print(s). The LPS also conducts Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS) searches, provides written reports, and expert testimony regarding their examinations and findings. The Latent Print Section provides its services to all entities within in the New York City Police Department and, upon request, to all bona fide law enforcement agencies requesting its services. Under general supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgement, this position will utilize manual and automated office systems and perform supervisory tasks and administrative tasks such as roll call, data entry, court schedule monitoring, scanning/filing of case files, and evidence intake. This position is expected to perform other related work and may perform the duties of lower level titles and assignment levels.
Minimum Qual Requirements:
ELIGIBILITY TO BE PROMOTED: In order to be eligible for promotion, you must have completed your probationary period in the eligible title as indicated in the above Eligibility To Take Examination section, and you must be permanently employed in the eligible title or your name must appear on a Preferred List for the eligible title at the time of promotion. Additionally, you must have served permanently in the eligible title for at least one year.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess proficiency in Roll Call, Centralized Personnel Resource System (CPR), CityTime, Court Monitoring Systems, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
This lateral opportunity is open to current Senior Police Administrative Aides only. Applicants’ time and leave records, disciplinary records, and performance evaluations will be reviewed and taken into consideration. If selected a Commanding Officer’s recommendation is needed prior to the transfer.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
