POLICE DEPARTMENT

The NYPD’s Training Bureau provides recruits, uniformed officers, and civilians with the most up-to-date academic, tactical and technological information available, transforming them into the best trained, most prepared law enforcement professionals in the nation. By working with the City’s diverse communities, including career development for civilian executives and management level employees, the bureau provides the highest level of instruction to all members of the service and supports their ability to protect the life, property, and dignity of all New Yorkers, workers, and visitors. The Training Bureau’s Reproductions Unit ensures all printed training material requests are completed in a professional, timely and efficient manner that is consistent with department standards.
The Reproductions Unit is currently seeking a Printing Press Operator to perform the following tasks:
– Perform printing duties on various printer/copier machines;
– Assist in setting up the printer/copier for individual work order specifications;
– Utilize other print shop machinery such as the plastic comb binder, hole puncher, laminator, folder and heavy duty cutter;
– Monitor the operation of the all machines and make adjustments as required;
– Provide general maintenance on all machines including printer/copier; heavy duty cutter, laminator, folder, plastic comb binder and industrial hole puncher. Determine appropriate paper for specific job and load required amount.
– Utilize computer software, if required, to make simple edits to documents prior to printing;
– Inspect completed orders to ensure accuracy and package for pick up/delivery;
WORK LOCATION: Police Academy 130-30 28th Ave. College Point, NY 11354
WORK SCHEDULE: Mon – Fri; Sat/Sun RDO (days off)
Minimum Qualifications
1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as an offset printing operator; or
2.A minimum of three years of full-time satisfactory offset printing press experience as described in “1” above and any combination of the following education and experience to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable experience:
a. full-time satisfactory experience as an offset printing operator’s apprentice or helper; or
b. education in a technical high school, trade high school, or vocational high school with a major course of study in operating an offset printing press: or
c. graduation from a recognized trade school with a major course of study in operating an offset printing press, with a minimum of 600 hours.
Preferred Skills
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in the following areas: – Prior experience working in a print shop and operating machinery utilized within the field of printing and reproduction – Basic computer skills including sizing of documents and ability to perform basic editing functions
Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
