Major Responsibilities
– Supervise and direct the operation, inspection and maintenance of at least one park district and sign and approve the time records of Park Supervisor(s) – Level I.
– Attend meetings of community boards and other community groups. Work with community organizations to promote community involvement in Parks events and programs.
– Supervise, instruct and train full-time and seasonal employees and alternative workforces assigned to the maintenance, protection, conservation and operation of one or more parks and/or facilities, concessions, beaches, parkways, golf courses, tennis courts, playgrounds, Greenstreet sites, swimming pools and public restrooms and natural protected areas, such as woodlands, wetlands and salt marshes.
– Fully utilize all available resources to improve services provided to the public. Ensure that operating and maintenance procedures are followed in order to promote maximum public utilization of facilities and to safeguard the interests of the City. May establish such procedures.
– Enforce Parks & Recreation rules and regulations within park areas and terms and conditions of licenses and permits issued by the Agency. Responsible for the collection, custody and deposit of revenue.
– Coordinate special event related operations such as site preparation, equipment transportation, seating, clean up and site restoration.
– Work with Federal, State and City agencies on regulatory and daily operational issues.
– Use computer equipment to perform record keeping and other required functions.
– Perform the duties of a Park and Recreation Manager in that person’s absence.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, plus two years of full-time satisfactory experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, in the automotive trades, in the building construction or maintenance trades, or as a climber and pruner or tree worker performing climbing and pruning duties. One year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in “1” above; including one year in a supervisory capacity; or
3. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. Two years of college education may be substituted for one year of the required experience. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and a minimum of one year of supervisory experience as described in “1” above.
License Requirement
Within one year of the date of appointment, all candidates must possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) – Class B valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Residency Requirement
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency within 90 days of hire required for all other candidates.
