Major Responsibilities
– Support Forestry unit in achieving goals and objectives.
– Oversee and support Forestry Supervisor I in managing Crew Chiefs, Climbers & Pruners, and other field staff.
– Collaborate with Senior Forester, Foresters, and administrative staff to maintain and improve work processes.
– Plan, coordinate, and ensure completion of multi-day forestry operations.
– Create prioritized work listings using ForMS, Excel, and supporting tools.
– Manage staff in accordance with policies, procedures, and best practices.
– Prepare for and resolve situational forestry emergencies.
– Coordinate forestry operations with contracted, mutual-aid, and utility work crews.
– Conduct Level 2 tree inspections in routine and emergency situations.
– Document tree, inspection, work, and crew data using ForMS Mobile and Desktop applications.
– Monitor fleet conditions, log requests in Fleet Focus, and coordinate maintenance and repair services.
– Monitor facility conditions, log requests in AMPS, and coordinate maintenance and repair services.
– Maintain inventory of facility and work supplies, identify needs, and submit purchasing requests.
– Schedule trainings, train staff, conduct recurring safety meetings, and track staff attendance.
– Establish staff schedules, coordinate overtime and emergency attendance, and ensure accurate timekeeping.
– Document vehicle accidents, incidents, and injuries, and ensure accurate and timely submission of reports.
– Take necessary disciplinary actions in accordance with policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, plus two years of full-time satisfactory experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, in the automotive trades, in the building construction or maintenance trades, or as a climber and pruner or tree worker performing climbing and pruning duties. One year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in “1” above; including one year in a supervisory capacity; or
3. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. Two years of college education may be substituted for one year of the required experience. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and a minimum of one year of supervisory experience as described in “1” above.
License Requirement
Within one year of the date of appointment, all candidates must possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) – Class B valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Residency Requirement
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency within 90 days of hire required for all other candidates.
