The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), Office of Citywide Equity and Inclusion (OCEI), seeks to hire an Equity and Inclusion College Aide.
The mission of OCEI is to foster the City of New York’s emergence as an innovative and global leader in equitable, diverse and inclusive employment practices. OCEI is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the City’s EEO Policy and other EEO-related policies and provided best practice guidance impacting the workforce across over 80 agencies (mayoral or non-mayoral). OCEI develops and collaborates on strategies that fulfill the City’s EEO mandates and equity and inclusion initiatives which drive the development, engagement, advancement and retention of a diverse and inclusive workforce.OCEI also guides city agencies as they establish their own DE&I strategies through the charter-mandated annual Diversity & EEO plans that set forth objectives and best practices to implement EEO policies, promote equitable workforce practices, engaging and respectful workplace environments.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Office of Citywide Equity and Inclusion, the selected candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following tasks:
Conducts research in the areas of program and policy development, recruitment, and employment law
Conducts outreach to internal and external partners on matters related to Citywide equity and inclusion initiatives
Assists with reviewing, developing and assembling training materials and PowerPoint presentations
Assists in reviewing, researching and making recommendations on new legal mandates required to be operationalized by the Office
Schedules and tracks various activities conducted by the Office
Records, tracks and prepares reports based on outreach activities
Participates in recruitment events, best practices meetings and other events as required by the Office
Provides administrative and clerical support to the Office of Citywide Equity and Inclusion team
Performs other ad-hoc projects as assigned
Minimum Qual Requirements
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Interest in Human Resources, EEO, Equity and Inclusion, or Public Policy
Past experience in research and/or writing reports
Attention to details and ability to multi-task
Excellent computer skills
Strong sense of initiative and engagement in the nature of OCEI work
