DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Civil Engineering Intern, or must have filed for the Open Competitive Civil Engineering Intern Exam #5047, or be eligible under the 55a program.
Traffic Operations seeks to hire one Civil Engineering Intern who will be responsible for engaging in the research, investigations, studies, or examinations related to the engineering functions or activities of a department or agency. The candidate will prepare designs, plans, contract and working drawings, contract specifications, other technical specifications, and estimates of quantities. The candidate will coordinate with design consultants on all capital and outside agencies’ projects citywide. The successful candidate will review, comment, and prepare AutoCAD designs while evaluating contract documents for the modification of new and existing signalized intersections citywide. The candidate will participate in meetings with design consultants and lead agencies on their projects related to signalized intersections, and maintain records of drawings, plans, maps, surveys, and inspection data.
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.
Preferred Skills
– Excellent written and communication skills. – Proficient in Microsoft applications. – Possess a motor vehicle driver’s license, valid in the state of New York.
