General Description
 

This position is assigned to the Mayor’s Office, Office of Neighborhood Safety/Advance Peace whose primary objective is to reduce local gun violence within a culturally competent and trauma-responsive framework. The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing street outreach and tailored engagement, and services referral on behalf of selected community members. Additional, incumbents in this title will be responsible for effectively mediating street-level conflicts that could elevate to gun violence. Performs related work as required.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
 

Typical Work Activities
 

Assists in the development, implementation, and refinement of protocols for addressing and reducing community conflict associated with gun violence;
Assists in mediating high-level street conflicts, and referring and guiding selected residents through the processes of social, behavioral, educational, employment, and other various support services, etc.;
Provides case management and maintains constant community presence by conducting daily outreach to individuals involved in gun-related conflicts, their friends, associates, and families; shares information about available services and resources; works to ensure community knowledge of Advance Peace activities;
Meet with the team on a daily/weekly basis to share contacts, outcomes and ensure that all clients are being appropriately served;
Assists in the development and maintenance of appropriate participant documentation, record keeping, and program assessment and refinement with special attention to confidentiality concerns;
Develops relationships for the purposes of referral with service delivery providers, particularly education, behavioral health and employment, and training agencies and resources;
Establishes relationships with community, faith-based and governmental organizations with interests in addressing gun violence and providing opportunities for those involved in gun violence;
Translates work related issues and material into understandable written and oral formats; communicates clearly, can compose and organize timely and informative weekly and monthly reports;
Follows up on participants at specified intervals to ascertain programming status, challenges, outcomes, and opportunities in real-time.
 

Minimum Qualifications
 

High school diploma or Equivalent; AND two (2) years of violence prevention/intervention (interruption) experience and/or community development (organizing/engagement) experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a current valid NYS Class D Operator’s license.
The license must be maintained throughout employment in this title.
