Appointment Process and Minimum Qualifications:
This Office Assistant 1 position is permanent and is paid on an annual basis. The Office Assistant 1 is a competitive class position that requires an examination. Candidates that are eligible and whose scores are immediately reachable on the eligible list that results from this examination will be canvassed for this position.
Transfer Qualifications: Under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law: One year of permanent, competitive service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Such titles include Office Assistant 1 Keyboarding or Office Assistant 1 Stores/Mail.

Provisional Appointment: If there is no appropriate eligible list of at least three people willing to accept permanent appointment for this geographic location, the Department may nominate a qualified person for a provisional appointment under the provisions of Section 65 of the Civil Service Law.
Provisional Appointment Minimum Qualifications: There are no minimum education or experience requirements.
Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Office Assistant 1, G-6, to work in the Division of Animal Industry in Albany, NY. Office Assistant 1 provides general office support to meet the requirements of agency programs. Such work may include answering or escalating internal and external inquiries, answering phones, scheduling meetings, and filing documentation.
The position is conveniently located at 10B Airline Drive, Albany, NY 12235. This is a CSEA-represented position in the salary grade 6 that offers a competitive salary of $34,152 with excellent benefits. Division of Animal Industry:
The Division of Animal Industry is responsible for surveillance for animal diseases of significance to agriculture; control and eradication of infectious and contagious diseases in New York State livestock and poultry; implementation of pre-harvest food safety measures at the farm level; public health; food safety and security; and animal care.
The highest priorities for this Division are protecting the health of New York’s animal populations, protecting the health of people who depend on those animals, and cooperating with other states and the US government to guard against diseases that threaten to interrupt interstate and international commerce in animals and animal products. The Division also has responsibilities for assuring the welfare of animals handled by pet dealers, dog control officers, and municipal dog shelters. The Division of Animal Industry has staff in Albany and inspectors and veterinarians located across the state who administer these programs.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Office Assistant 1 perform entry-level clerical and office support work, including processing transactions and maintaining records in a variety of organizational settings. Any given assignment may encompass a broad or narrow range of activities including; answering questions from and providing information to various parties regarding agency activities, transactions, and procedures; operating various communication systems such as telephones and computers and keeping records of such communications; operating, and performing basic cleaning and maintenance on, office machines and equipment; scheduling appointments and meetings using various office tools; and performing routine processing activities, including checking forms for completeness and accuracy.
